ROOTS: Research and Outreach Opportunities in Technological Systems
ROOTS is a hands-on, paid summer program that connects students to real agricultural research, technological systems, and university learning environments. Through immersive fieldwork, mentorship, and collaboration, participants build skills, confidence, and pathways into agriculture- and engineering-related careers.

Time Commitment
- 40 hours per week
- Fully on-site experience
- On-site housing available
Locations
Participants will be placed at one of two University of Arizona research centers:
- Maricopa Agricultural Center (Maricopa, AZ)
- Controlled Environment Agriculture Center (UA Main Campus, Tucson)
Stipend
- $6,000 stipend for the full program


What ROOTS Fellows Will Experience
ROOTS Fellows engage in:
- Hands-on agricultural research and fieldwork
- Exposure to technological systems used in modern agriculture
- Team-based learning in active research environments
- Mentorship from University of Arizona researchers and staff
Students gain a deeper understanding of how technology, agriculture, and sustainability intersect — while building professional and academic confidence.
