Honoring Student Accomplishments

The College of Engineering is pleased to host an in-person commencement ceremony on December 16th, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. in Centennial Hall. Graduating students are receiving invitations and further details via email; RSVPs for attendance are due by Friday, December 3rd. We look forward to celebrating our #ENGRCat graduates!

To mitigate additional risk involved with COVID-19, in-person participation in this ceremony is limited to:

  • Students graduating in fall 2021, and those who graduated in summer or winter of 2021
  • Maximum of eight guests per in-person student graduate
  • Faculty and staff of the college

Preparing for Your Big Day

Registration is required for participation in Winter Commencement. Students should RSVP here. Registration will formally close on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 11:59pm. Late submissions will not be accepted. Many more details will be provided to student graduates via email and through the registration link/process.

Tickets are required for all guests; graduates should provide information on ticket needs at time of RSVP.

All students participating in Winter Commencement must wear full regalia, including cap and gown, (and hood for Master’s and Ph.D. candidates). Please visit the UA Bookstore and utilize the “Graduation” tab to find regalia and other Commencement offerings.

Frequently Asked Questions

How will I be able to participate in the ceremony?

  • The ceremony will be held in-person this year; there is no virtual live event.

  • Students participating in person will be allowed up to 8 guests.

  • A digital event program will be available on this site, once completed.

What about photography?

  • Photographs will be taken during the ceremony; students can indicate interest in ordering and obtain additional details at the time of registration.

I’m a student attending commencement. What do I have to do before the ceremony?

  • Agree to COVID-19  and Student Code of Conduct policies.

  • Complete the Commencement 2021 RSVP by Friday, December 3, 2021.

  • Collect contact information for attendings guests; this information will be submitted at time of RSVP in case of need for contact tracing as recommended by the University of Arizona.

  • Acquire academic regaliathrough the UA Bookstore. The College of Engineering will provide cords (free of charge) to students graduating with academic distinction - to be distributed by department.

  • Pick up tickets when they are ready to distribute to your guests; tickets will be distributed and handed out by the College and individual academic departments.

What can I expect to happen at the ceremony?

  • The ceremony begins promptly at 7 p.m. and may take up to two hours. Doors open no earlier than 6 p.m. There are required check-in procedures that occur at the Engineering Building (1127 E. James E. Rogers Way) up to two hours before the ceremony begins (students only). Details will be sent directly to graduates via email.

  • Students who attend in-person will have their names read aloud and will be able to walk across the stage.

  • A light outdoor reception will take place after the ceremony (around 9:00 p.m.), on the Arizona State Museum lawn. During registration, graduates can indicate plans to attend the reception.

  • Per UA policy, face coverings are required in all indoor spaces where it is not possible to adequately and continuously maintain social distance.

I’m a graduate student and I want to be hooded. Will that happen?

  • Yes. Hooding will take place for graduate students; the final process will be aligned with the UA and Centennial Hall’s protocols and safety procedures. Grads may submit a request for faculty participation in this special ceremony during time of registration.

What about my guests? Where do they park? Do they need to do anything before they come?

  • A variety of parking options are available near Centennial Hall (1020 E University Blvd). Visit UA Parking & Transportation to view maps and details.

  • Once obtained, student registrants are responsible for getting tickets to their attendees; every guest must have a ticket in-hand to enter the program.

What name will appear on my diploma?

  • The University of Arizona issues diplomas under the name specified in your UAccess records. In many cases, this is your legal name. Similarly, the College of Engineering will utilize the name specified in your UAccess records for multiple purposes, such as creating an event program, newspaper ads, and personalized mementos. We encourage you to review this information and process through the Office of the Registrar.
