Application Process

A complete international student application for admission to the University of Arizona, College of Engineering and Honors College, as well as for scholarships must include all of the following:

  • Online application for the University of Arizona, indicating one of the College’s 14 Undergrad Engineering Majors as your intended major

  • Declaration of Support & Financial Guarantee Documentation

  • Official TOEFL and IELTS scores

International students must meet either a TOEFL score of 79 or an IELTS score of 6.5.

  • Official transcripts
Secondary, college or university transcripts are official only if sealed in an envelope by your counselor or registrar. An official secondary school transcript must be submitted if you are under age 22 or if otherwise required. Please ensure your current name is included on all transcripts.

  • Payment of nonrefundable/nontransferable $75 processing fee

  • Official test scores from the SAT Reasoning Test and/or the ACT
These test scores are optional for University admission. However, the scores must be on file for scholarship consideration, admission to the Honors College, and placement at New Student Orientation and possible placement into a major at New Student Orientation. To submit your scores electronically, write code 4832 (SAT) or code 0096 (ACT) on the test reservation form. Scores posted on your secondary school transcript are also acceptable.

Once you have been admitted to the University of Arizona and the College of Engineering, log in to the University's Next Steps Center and complete the following:

  • Math, writing and second language placement exams (prior to arriving on campus)

  • Residence Life application

  • Orientation registration

Requirements/Evaluation

Incoming International Freshmen

International students applying for admission as incoming freshmen are admitted based on exceptional grades earned in high school math, science and English coursework (or TOEFL, etc.). While engineering classes may be considered in the application review, they are not required. In particular, the UA International Admissions Office and College of Engineering look at the following:

  • Math and composite scores for SAT and/or ACT (optional for University admission, required for scholarship consideration, admission to the Honors College, and placement at New Student Orientation into foundation coursework)

  • Academic GPA (primarily math and science grades)
The following final, cumulative high school GPA (as determined by the UA International Admissions Office) will establish not only admission to the College of Engineering, but also whether you can choose a major prior to the start of your freshman year. All incoming freshmen are designated as No Major Selected. However, that status can change following a final review of your entire academic history, including new information submitted after the application.)
HS GPA 3.80 – 4.00: placed directly into the requested major in the College of Engineering

    • HS GPA 3.50 – 3.79: admitted as No Major Selected with placement into a major based on an ALEKS (math placement) score of 75 or greater.

    • HS GPA 3.00 – 3.49: admitted as No Major Selected and remain No Major Selected for the first semester

    • HS GPA 2.99 and lower: no admission to the College of Engineering; may be placed in second choice of college

  • Class rank

  • Rigor of high school courses (AP, IB, honors, etc.)

  • Personal essay

International students must meet either a TOEFL score of 79 or an IELTS score of 6.5.

International Transfer Students

International transfer students must meet the same academic requirements as domestic transfer students.
