Summer Engineering Robotics Camp

Course Information

The College of Engineering at the University of Arizona will present the Burr Brown Texas Instruments Summer Engineering Robotics Camp to attract qualified sixth, seventh and eighth grade students to consider engineering as a career option.

The fundamental idea behind the Summer Engineering Robotics Camp is to show prospective engineers exactly how an idea becomes reality. Students will build robots from Lego Mindstorm kits and compete in design team challenges testing their models for speed, endurance, and other technological abilities.

Students will also be exposed to computer programming. In addition to programming their Lego robots, actually designing and building their robots will require them to become familiar with:

SolidWorks -- three-dimensional computer-aided design software
Rapid prototyping using powder-injection technology.

Classroom lectures will cover topics ranging from fundamentals of mathematics and physics to engineering design and project management. Prizes will be awarded to the best overall designs. Students will also be able to experience engineering around campus with guest lectures from student clubs and design teams as well as from industry.

Application

To apply to the Summer Engineering Robotics Camp, complete the online registration or return the downloadable application form by April XX, 2010. A program fee of $350 is due upon acceptance into the program.

The following are also required:

A $10 non-refundable application fee (check payable to UA, MEP)
Recommendation from your math or science teacher
Middle school report card
