Undergraduate Admissions

Incoming Freshmen

When students apply to The University of Arizona and indicate engineering as their interest, they are applying for:

• Admission to The University of Arizona
• Admission to the College of Engineering 
• Admission to the Honors College 
• Scholarships  

No additional applications for the College of Engineering, Honors College or for scholarships are required. For need-based financial aid, please refer to the Office of Student Financial Aid.

The Office of Admissions forwards the completed applications onto the College of Engineering for comprehensive review. The key components considered by the College are:

• Math and composite scores for SAT or ACT, or both
• Academic GPA
  • Math grades
  • Science grades
    
• Class rank
• Rigor of high school courses (AP, IB, Honors, etc)
  
• Personal essay

From this information we admit students who we believe will be successful in any of our engineering majors. Averages from our 2008 Freshman Profile are as follows:

After admission to the College, students will have the opportunity to identify their engineering major.

Denied admission to College of Engineering?

Freshmen admitted to the UA can reapply to the College of Engineering after completion of: 

• Calculus I with a grade of C or better
  
  AND
  

• 12 or more credits of coursework within the UA engineering curricula (see table below), with a GPA that meets the requirements for advanced standing in the requested major.
